Page 13 of this guide shows this:

But I have this(gif video):

Problem 1: SpeciesID on the wrong side, but I followed the instructions (I believe) -- how can I correct this?

Problem 2: Selecting records doesn't populate the joined table or it doesn't update it properly. Does anyone know why?

(Hopefully I'm asking the right place -- I'm fairly new here)

Hi djim,

Do you have correct data source set in each grid properties ?

What is the join type on the second data source ?

The tutorial doesn't make sense to me because it's joining 2 tables together without a foreign key.

Table1:

BreedID

Name

Table2:

SpeciesID

Name

The Breed table doesn't have a SpeciesID key to join it together. (The tutorial completely lacks this)

So perhaps it's the tutorial and not me.

And..

The LinkType is "Delayed"

Hi djim,

1) Both table should have "SpeciesId" filed and should be joined by it.

2) One of the grids should have data source Breed table and another Species tables as I can see both of them has same data source.

When I add the Breed ID, it doesn't ask me which species to tie it to, how would it know to tie in the species to breed?

What I have:

(it doesn't have fields where we can enter the species ID to tie it into the breed ID...)

(I feel like if i keep on going with this tutorial, this problem will exacerbate).

I should probably just keep going to get a rough idea on how things work. Unfortunately, the tutorial assumes everything was done correctly before.

Yep, all previous tasks should be completed correctly. If you did them wrong it's strange to expect that form will work as per tutorial.

So do you have same fields and relation in breed table as on my screenshot in previous post ?

It appears to be exactly the same.. here's mine:

The next parts in the tutorial don't need this part to be correct so I'll skip it for now. Hopefully it doesn't haunt me in DEVII, III, and IV...

Not really. If you will select Grid1 and do right click -> Properties, in properties pane there is a property "DataSource". I'm asking what value do you have for both grids.
