Dynamics 2016 On Prem Intermittent Credential Prompts

Hi all,

We are running into a problem with an installation of Dynamics 2016 on prem where it logins automatically (integrated auth) on domain joined computer, but when using Dynamics, at seemingly random places (Customize the system and a custom entity specifically are causing a problem, but users are reporting others), it is prompting for credentials. It seems that if we do an iisreset + cache clear on Edge/IE/Chrome that it works the first time after logging in, but then continues to "randomly" prompt for credentials.

We have confirmed our authentication providers, it is set to be NTLM first and Negotiate second. We have Anonymous Access, ASP.NET Impersonation and Windows Authentication enabled, Forms Authentication disabled on the website.

Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of thoughts:

The authentication provider settings work at several levels, which can make a difference - see https://mscrmuk.blogspot.co.uk/2009/08/windows-nt-authentication-provider-it.html

IIS Logging may give you more information. You should see entries for 401 errors corresponding to when the user gets prompted, and the substatus might be useful. However, this isn't a particularly easy way to troubleshoot, as 401s are also a normal part of the authentication sequence
