How to fix errors in data in Production?

Hi experts,

Sometimes it is needed to change or delete some data in the Production environment of Business Central.

Normally I would create a small code unit and run it, but how do I do that in BC?

Do I really have to create a page extension in a new app (or add a version number to my existing app) and then install it in Production?

That is a lot of work, when I just need to run 3-4 lines of code to fix an error.

Any ideas?

Best regards,

Morten

    Hello,

There are indeed some restrictions when your customers are using the online release of BC. Maybe the community can provide you with some good practices.

    Thanks.

The method I use is to have a report object, which may use a codeunit. Instead of having it accessible from the UI I don’t include application area or usage category and call the report from the url. If you add ?report=<your report number> then it will open the report. Add any specific permissions you need to the report or codeunit. The summary you gave on effort remains the same.

I normally suggest to create a small "support app" (per tenant extension) that containes editable pages on tables you want to modify or processingonly reports (as suggested by Jon). Only a SUPER user can execute this support app and you can also remove it when not needed.

    Hi all,

Thank you very much for your input.

I've made a small new extension that only works on my user. And when I have used it, I remove the extension from the system.

It is not as nice and easy as it was in NAV or Axapta 10 years ago, but it works.

    Best regards,

    Morten
