I finally convinced one of my clients to give W7 64 bit a try. So they bought the fastest Dell desktop they could find and we loaded W7 64 bit and installed GP 10. It was extremely embarassing to watch this computer take almost 45 seconds to get past the prompt where you specify the company name. His old XP computer which is about a fourth the CPU speed accomplishes the same task in about 7 seconds. Has anyone else experienced this sluggishness with GP 10 on W7 64 bit?

There are many clients using Windows 7 64 bit (including me).
I suggest installing the Support Debugging Tool (http://aka.ms/SDT/) and using its ability to capture logs on login.
The Dexterity Script Profile will show where the time is being lost.
I would then suggest logging a support case to work out what is wrong.

Ok, I found somethng that works. I downgraded this W7 64 bit machine back to WXP SP3. At first I used the SQL Native Client for the ODBC connection and there no difference in speed. Then I downgraded the ODBC client to the old SQL client and wham, back to 7 seconds. So unless I can find a way to either get the old SQL Client to run on a W7 64 bit computer or to get the newer SQL Native Client to run faster on a W7 64 bit computer I will stay with WXP and SQL Client.
Ron, have you had a chance to setup your new computer up with W7 64bit? I am about to strip these two machines down and go back to XP. Andrew appeared to confirm what I am experiencing and I am curious to hear if you are having equally poor results.
Ron, I have disabled all of his GP homepage. I also have tested having him go to a WXP computer and log in as himself so we are comparing apples to apples. WXP - 8 Seconds, W7 - 42 seconds. My next test is to create a W7-64 bit image and only install GP 10 on it. If that is faster, I will slowly add each of the other pieces of software in an attempt to identify what is causing the sluggishness. I look forward to your findngs.
Good morning, Richard. I hate when stuff like that happens.
I have GP 10.0 installed on my Win 7 32bit laptop, logging into Fabrikam takes 11 seconds from company selection to active menus (first startup since reboot). Second attempt takes 7 seconds.
I am getting a 64 bit Windows 7 laptop though today or Monday. As soon as I can get GP 10 installed, I'll retest and update you.
Do they have the home page components for Outlook enabled? If so, I'd recommend disabling it, and maybe the metrics too, just for troubleshooting purposes.

I can confirm that my W7 64 bit machine is slow to launch GP10. I just timed it and it also takes 45 seconds from company selection to when the UI is responsive.
