Need to install FRx on a new Windows 7 workstation

Hello,

I just completed an upgrade form GP 10 to GP 2010 thank you Bradley & Richard.

I added a new Windows 7 Workstation and installed GP 2010 on the workstation and it works great.

The problem is that FRx is used on this network for reporting.

I concerned that if I proceed with a full install on the workstation that it may impact the way GP 2010 works on the server.

The server has a cleint install created in the past probably by MS Support but when I run that on the workstation while the windows installer appeared to be installing FRx it does not seem to install FRx on the workstation.

Any help on how to proceed would be greately appreciated.

Bob,

While not supported, I have FRx 6.7 working successfully on numerous Win 7 64-bit computers, however, it is a bit of a pain to install usually. My guidelines for ensuring the install works properly:

Log into Windows as the local built-in administrator to do the installation. This is not the same as the domain administrator or a user in the local administrators group and is important for the FRx install to work properly, at least in my experience.

Install to a folder outside of Program Files.

Make sure to install the latest service pack (currently 12) prior to running FRx for the first time. If your other computers running FRx are not on SP 12, you may want to upgrade them first, as all FRx installs pointing to the same data should be on the same service pack.

During the install, at least once you will get an error saying something was not able to register properly, I forget exactly at what step. I have not had any issues simply clicking ok through that message and continuing.

I should add that this workstation is Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
