BOM Level Calculation Exceeding Parameter Setup

Recently converted from AX 2009 to AX 2012 R3.  We have experienced finished good items that are calculating BOM levels in excess of 500, our inventory parameters are set to a max BOM level of 40.  

We updated the BOM version record in the Inventdimid table force a BOM level of 0, recalculated and it reproduced a BOM level of 502.  Item had a BOM level of 0 in AX 2009.

I haven't received any errors surrounding BOM circularity, but don't have any additional thoughts on what could be causing the issue.
