AVL AML QMPL Approved Manufacture Part number.

We need to store a list of approved manufacturer part numbers in the system.  What would be the best location for this?

User stories:

"As a buyer, I can need to know what the approved manufacturer part number(s) are, so that I can display it on the PO and it passes quality to be consumed in production."

 

"As a purchasing manager, I want to view spend by manufacturer part number, so that I can find savings by increasing amount purchased."

    Hi Michael.Bender,

    You could create your external item number in the External item description. Or create a code in the External codes.

    Hy Michael,

    first option is as @Will Wu wrote "external item description", which can hold external item number, description and text. This is typically used for Vendors item number. So but it can also be the case that Vendor is not identical with Manufacturer and you need a third number.

    Then you can use external code (for the moment is is not active in my environment ...)

    What we did is an other solution, if Vendor is not the manufacturer.

    Because there is no field for Manufacturer at item master data. We created two product attributes for Manufacturer and Manufacturer part number and assigned these to a product category hierarchy.
