Is it possible to change the functional currency? The actual functional currency doesn't exist anymore in the country - changed to US$!!!

You cannot change the functional currency once it set, normally we used to use the database to update the currency if the ID was changed or somehow it was set by mistake then run check links for multicurrency setup.
However in your case you cannot, you have a big number of historical transactions that are with different exchange rate and might cause a big issue when doing this change, personally I would create a new company and copy existing company setup with the new functional currency.
What if the currency ID for the accounts and checkbooks are USD and then functional and reporting currency is set at Z$-US - I accidentally set the functional and reporting currency to the Z$-US and the accounts and the checkbooks all have USD - I tried to change the functional currency but the client already entered journals that used the Z$-US so it won't let me change it.
