CRM Views - Extremely Limited

(0) ShareShare

Unless I am really missing something it seems like views in CRM are extremely limited.  Is there no way to do the equivalent of...

Left Outer Join

Correlated sub-queries

Union

Except

Not in (combined with a sub-query)

Please let me know if you have any ideas.  Thanks.

    Joe,

CRM Advanced Find views are very powerful, easy to use but as you pointed out do have their limitations. For example as you identified there is no Not logic.

What most do is to create the necessary query using a report. And now with the Dashboard Reporting Control you can very nicely embed a report into a dashboard view.

Jerry, Thanks.  That does look useful.

Where I'm going with this is marketing related.  I'm not wild about what I'm seeing.  For example.  I want to create lists on a regular basis that will alway exclude a certain group of customers that we have.  I have created a custom entity to manage this special group of customers.  The list is ever changing on a daily basis. Some people are dropped, others are added.

At the time the marketing list is run I want to exclude anyone is active in this new sub-group I've defined in a custom entity.  I can sort of do it if I create static lists and then always remember to manually removed the sub-group, but the process is tedious.  Our marketing director will never go for it.  Can I create a work flow process, maybe?

You have pointed out one of the leading workarounds for the not logic as it would apply to leads, contacts or accounts

Have you checked out Dynamics Marketing Lists?

I understand perfectly how to create dynamic lists.  But I don't understand the workaround for the not logic.  A work-flow process, then.  Can you provide me a link with info on creating the 'not in' workaround?  Thanks.

    Joe,

In that case I think you are going to be stuck as you can only associate one query with a Dynamic Marketing List at this time and unless the view can incorporate the not logic you need re: the custom entity you created than you do have a challenge. There are two ISV companies that published advanced tools for managing marketing lists but neither made them available for CRM 2011. And to this date Workflow doesn't have a buit-in connection to Marketing Lists unfortunately.

Shoot.  Okay.  Rats.  Well, it would not be a challenge if I could supply my own SQL code for the query.  What a powerful enhancement it would be if we could base marketing lists on custom stored procedures.  Then I could move mountains.  Thanks, anyway.  I'll figure out something.

Jerry, one more thing.  I guess I can't do the equivelent of a 'group by' can I?  I would sure like to.
