Project ledger account type Deferred cost

Hi all,
When you enable revenue recognition feature a new project ledger account type "Deferred cost" becomes avalible in Ledger posting setup. I cannot find any documentation regarding the new account type. Does anybody knows what this is and how it should be used? Or point me at the direction of the docs?

(The reason why asking is that my client wants to implement an automated deferal of cost for project PO:s of subscriptions that should be deferred according to a schedule in project management. And then my customsation would include to impelement a "deferred cost" ledger account type. To my suprise it already existed!)

    Hi Henrik,

    Good to know!

Just to be clear for anyone else reading this, the functionality mentioned is only available in D365 F&O Project Management & Accounting and not Project Operations, though hopefully it will be one day!

    Hi Mark

Yes it helped. I found the doc for the project setup for the revenue recognition:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../revenue-recognition-setup

(So soon there will be a customisation to post deffered cost to project sub ledger from Project PO:s for my client)

    Hi Henrik,

When you say enable the revenue recognition feature, are you referring to the the new Accounts Receivable/Sales Ledger revenue recognition?  Revenue recognition has always been there for Projects without the new posting type. There currently is not a way to defer costs in the Project Module this would be done in the GL through accruals/prepayments rules once costs have hit.

This is a MS video of the functionality.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/finance/accounts-receivable/revenue-recognition-overview

    Hope this helps.

    Mark
