Is it possible for inventory to be allocated, when it's being drop shipped?

    Since you have used the Drop Shipments feature, the purchased goods will be delivered directly to the customer. There is no need to allocate the inventory. If you need to allocate or other steps, please use Special Orders.

    by design, for drop shipment, a sales order and the corresponding purchase order is automatically treated as reservation by BC. So I guess manual reservation is not needed.

    No, it's not possible. Inventory is allocated when it’s stored in your own warehouse. However, with dropshipping, the inventory is shipped directly from the vendor to the customer, so there’s no need for allocation on your part.
