Dear team,

I explored in Google about LCS and Azure DevOps. And I know about the concept to use in D365F&O.

I have a question -

1. Is LCS is linked with Azure DevOps?

2. If yes, kindly advised me what configuration is required?

3. What is the advantages to Linked each other.

Kindly explain pls.

Thanks in advance

    Thanks Anthony for the response.

I have go through the link and came to know the process of linking.

Kindly provide me few examples to benefit of Linked each other. I mean in real world how it's worked each other.

    Thanks in advance.

For the BPM, you can align BPM libraries and test cases with your Azure Devops work items, and run your implementation from Azure DevOps. There are lots of advantages to this, such as standardising business processes, but I don't focus on this much personally as I am focussed on technical and system administration areas.

For the LCS connectivity - this I do focus on, and it is essential. Having Azure devops create and deploy your modifications as a single deployable package can be entirely controlled using Azure DevOps pipelines. You can implement YAML pipelines, environment approvals, Git source control, all the elements of an enterprise software project. The go-to site for setting this up is Adria's site ariste.info, the ALM guide is here: https://ariste.info/dynamics365almguide/welcome-2/. Creating this connection enables all the technical ALM magic.

    Hope this helps,
    Anthony

    Dear Anthony,
    .
Is CI/CD pipeline comes under YAML?

I mean to say, when developer check-in the code, Azure DevOps will automatically triggers the pipeline defined in the YAML file. If it's configured .

    What is BPM libraries?

I don't know much about YAML and BPM. So, this is my assumption.

    Am I correct?

BPM are business processes, important for new implementations and are used to map the requirements of you business process to work items in DevOps, which can be tracked and configured.

CI/CD & YAML - yes you are correct, you can build code, create packages to deploy to D365 environments, and deploy them using DevOps pipelines. This is the important part for this type of connection, you can connect DevOps to LCS as described in the links, and have your pipelines automatically deploy your enhancements. You have all the functionality of DevOps and YAML pipelines, of automation and quality control.

    Hope this helps!

I say the next steps are to have a really good read on these subjects and try some of these things out, and of course come back and ask questions if you get stuck.

    Thanks,
    Anthony

    Thanks Anthony for the reply.

I have already created new workitem in Azure DevOps. So, it is come under BPM?

Build pipeline (CI) and Release pipeline (CD) I have seen in Azure DevOps.

YAML file which contained the process of CI & CD.

Where YAML file is exist in Azure DevOps.

During the package deployment through CI &CD how the YAML file will work?

    Kindly explain pls.

    Hi,

I do read two questions in your last reply.

I have already created new workitem in Azure DevOps. So, it is come under BPM?
In case you create a work item in DevOps, this is not maintaining the BPM in LCS. The only integration between BPM and DevOps is about creating test cases. This is in one direction: from LCS to DevOps.

During the package deployment through CI &CD how the YAML file will work?
YAML is a configuration to tell the pipeline what to execute in what order. E.g. you can give instructions to build specific coding, move the completed binaries to another (test) environment, execute tests, or save a deployable package in LCS. There are more instructions possible.

I would suggest to read more about LCS and DevOps. You can search for documentation and blogs online.

I would second André's response here: these are two huge subjects and I think the best plan now is to do some reading, try something out, and if you need help come back and create new questions, I'm sure you will find help here.

    Best of luck,
    Anthony
