The GL account separator character (in below example a ‘-’)

Is this hard coded?

Could we have ever created a company where the account looks like XXXXXX.XXXX.XX.XX instead of XXXXXX-XXXX-XX-XX?

    Hi David,

It is possible to change the account separator.

This can be done in Administration > Setup > Company > Account Format.

I would recommend that you discuss this with your support partner before making any changes however, as you may need to consider things like Management Reporter, Integration Manager and Customisations etc. That list is not exhaustive.

    Kind Regards,

    Jamie

    Hi Jamie,

    I have another question.

Do you know in which table this "Separate with" character is stored?

    Thank you,

    David

    Hi David,

It's in SY01500 in the DYNAMICS database under ACSEGSEP for the relevant company.

Changing the Account Separator will likely also have to force an update on the ACTNUMST in GL00105 in the company database too, but may do other things so I STRONGLY suggest that it is not changed at the database level and it always changed within the application to allow the correct business logic to run from within Dynamics GP.

    Kind Regards,

    Jamie

Tools->Setup->Company->Account Format will get you to the screen where you can change the account separator. Given that GP uses an internal account index value I do not believe that changing this will require anything further to be done. The separator is just a visual effect. The segment values are stored separately.

David if you are encountering issues with making changes to fields within the application or if you are unable to find the windows that Jamie has referenced, it may be a matter of security or permission settings.

Richard has lead you to the window with in GP in which you can make that change, so I would follow that advice and use the application windows rather than SQL tables to make the changes.

SQL Table changes are often a solution of last resort and when and where you can use the applications provided solutions, that is best.

    Good luck.
