Management Reporter - Variance Calculations

Posted on by

I have a management report set up with Actual compared to Budget. For some of the variances I want to show it as a negative variance and some I want to show as a positive. Is there a way to do a negative variance for specific rows only?

try changing your calculation priority. in the settings view in the report definition select 'perform row calculation first then column. I am assuming you have the perform column calculation first then row.

    Hi DollyLee,

I am desperately trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong with our company budget statements.  Everywhere I read people are suggesting the XCR print control, but our statements are already set up this way and they don't seem to be calculating right.  I have double and triple checked that all rows necessary are coded with C for normal credit balance, and my column definition has the XCR, but when I generate this is what I get:

    Actual    Budget   Var F(U)

    Sales         112         350         (238)

    COS           129.9     269.6      139.7

    GP             (18)         80.4        (377.7)

    Any suggestions?

    You should also be able to do it using a custom format of 0;0 or the old FRx way of using an If statement;

    (IF D<0 THEN D*-1 ELSE D).

    Hi Kenchan,

    Go to the Column Definition

In the column that has your variance formula, make sure the print control has XCR in it.

XCR = Change sign in column if normal balance of row is credit

    Hope this helps.

Since a pictures says a thousand words...

Management reporter currently calculates Actual - Budget. However, for "Burn Rate", I need it to calculate Budget - Actual, and for "Sales", I need it to calculate Actual - Budget.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to change the column formula for specific rows?

    Thank you
