GP Analysis cubes - trying to decide on using them or building my own data warehouse

Dynamics GP 2010 comes with the option of adding Analysis cubes, along with a few SSIS packages to populate the DW.

Ive been reading the docs on the GP analysis cubes that are available for 2010 and Ive a requirement to build a data warehouse for reporting on "financial" type information.  It just so happens that a lot of it is already in GP, so the GP cubes option seemed like it might save me a lot of time.

However, if I wanted to pull in additional sources of information outside of GP, into the data warehouse, I would need to modify the SSIS packages, the underlying data warehouse DB, the cubes, add fact tables, dimensions etc.  Ok, I can handle that, but that leaves me with a custom solution anyway.  I was reading about how if one modifies the SSIS packages or data warehouse, you loose your upgrade option with new releases of the GP cubes etc.

So now Im wondering if it would be worth it to consider a "combined approach", using both the GP cubes and my own cubes, or just bypass the GP option altogether.

Thanks, that is kind of the way I am leaning.  I suppose its best to start with a new DW - I think the GP Cubes wizard will create a new DB rather than letting you point at an existing DB to add its fact & dimension tables into?

I would use existing GP cubes, it saves you 80% of your task, your upgrade concern is not that much valid as if you decided to move with custom DW you will not be utilizing GP updates.
