Hi all,

BC SaaS :

  1. I have completed " Set Up Email" in Business Central , both for Account type "Current User" & "Microsoft 365". > I am having issues to get "send on behalf of" working for a shared mailbox.

2. "Current User" : ConsultantSDP_demoBC@domain.com

This user has following licenses & is used as personal login to Business Central :

               1) Dynamics 365 BC Premium Partner Sandbox

               2) Exchange License (required for e-mailing)

3. USE-CASE ("current user" emailing) :  In CRONUS company, go to a Sales Order , Email confirmation From "Current User".

The e-mail is sent without error , so no problems e-mailing from BC with the personal user account.

4. Now for the Shared mailboxes : I created 2 shared mailboxes & made sure that the user ConsultantSDP_demoBC@domain.com

has permisions Full Acces , Send As & Send on Behalf assigned for the shared mailboxes (this is done in Exchange Admin center).

Accounting_demoBC@domain.com

Sales_demoBC@domain.com

5. Next , I added the shared mailboxes in BC via "Set up Email", account type = Microsoft 365

6. USE-CASE 2 ("send on behalf of" emailing for current user) :

In CRONUS company, go to a Sales Order , Email confirmation From one of the shared mailboxes. The e-mail is not sent. Error message

The email was not sent because of the following error: "The user account which was used to submit this request does not have the right to send mail on behalf of the specified sending account., Cannot submit message."

Question : Is there any configuration that I am missing

> In CRONUS company, go to a Sales Order , Email confirmation : "From" --> select one of the shared mailboxes.

> The current user has permisions Full Acces , Send As & Send on Behalf assigned in Exchange Admin center for the shared mailbox.

    Hello,

As per our docs, you cannot assign Send on Behalf permissions to a shared mailbox via EAC. If you are able to do so via EAC, it may be that there is a license assigned to the Shared Mailbox which is not necessary and makes the Shared Mailbox act as if it were a user's mailbox. If an user only requires Send on Behalf permissions, there is no need to assign Full Access permissions to this user.

Can't manage Send on Behalf permissions for shared mailboxes in the EAC - Exchange | Microsoft Learn

    Hope it helps.

    Hi Daniele,

I can see that this paragraph belongs to "Using SMTP" setup.

I am only using BC SaaS & Microsoft 365.

I can currently e-mail from "current user" in BC without having done any SMTP or other setup in BC.

Do I understand correctly that "Send as" or "send on behalf of" e-mailing from within Business Central is only possible via  the SMTP Connector ?  (= option 3 in "Set Up Email" BC menu) ?

My question is why e-mailing "Send on behalf" is not working for option 1 in the "Set Up Email" BC menu (= Microsoft 365 shared mailboxes).
