See emails sent from D365 in Outlook

How can I see email I sent from D365 in my Outlook sent folder?

We are using D365 with Exchange Online. We have Server-Side synchronization set for Incoming Email, Outgoing Email, and Appointments, Contacts, and Tasks. When we send email from the Dynamics 365 web interface, the recipient receives the email and it is recorded in Dynamics. We'd also like to see the sent email in our Outlook clients, since it is being sent from the same account. Is there any way to do this?

Dynamics Version 1612 (9.0.0.3292) (DB 9.0.0.3292) online.

I did find this https://community.dynamics.com/crm/f/117/t/125649 from 3 years ago, but they were using the CRM-Exchange E-mail Router, not server side sync.

Thank you!

    Hi Matt,

I' afraid this is by design.

When using Server Side Synchronization, CRM is sending the message without saving it. Therefore it will not appear in the sent items folder.

We're moving to SSS so we can use the D365 App for Outlook.  We are not aware of this.  Good to know.  Thank you.

    Hi Radu Chiribelea

What do you mean "CRM is sending the message without saving it"?

Do you mean it's not saved in Exchange (and therefore it's not synchronized) to Outlook?

Because you would still be able to find the email in CRM under email activities with Status Reason "sent" - right??

    Best regards,

    Tomas

    Tomas,

    What you said is correct.

Emails sent from CRM are recorded in CRM as activities under the appropriate entity.

    Hi Tomas,

CRM uses the Exhange Web Services Managed API.

When i say that CRM sends and email which is not saved in the sent items, i am referring to the API CRM is using to interact with exchange. In order to Send and Save a copy, you would need to call msdn.microsoft.com/.../microsoft.exchange.webservices.data.emailmessage.sendandsavecopy(v=exchg.80).aspx.

    However, CRM is calling msdn.microsoft.com/.../microsoft.exchange.webservices.data.emailmessage.send(v=exchg.80).aspx.

This is why the sent CRM Activity does not appear in outlook sent items - and is currently by design.

The email will appear in the CRM Outgoing Activities - as this is independent from the Outlook Sent items.

I hope i was able to answer your question.

If you need further details from my side, please feel free to ping me.

    Regards,

    Radu

Hi Radu, do you mean you can set up Send & Save if you are able to call the correct API? Would that save a copy in the users mailbox in the Sent items as well as creating an Activity in CRM?

    regards

    Hi Robin,

Unfortunately not this is strictly controlled by the crm platform and there currently is no way to influence this

    Hello Matt,

Thanks for reaching out to Dynamics Forum.

My name is Arshad  from Microsoft Dynamics Support team. If you would like to see emails sent direct from CRM using SSS (with Exchange Online Server profile) please create a service request with us and we would enable the feature for your organization.

Arshad, are you saying this would just be a support request setting up Server Side Sync for outbound email, or that this could be enabled to have sent emails also show in Exchange?
