Reinstall Can't create database from backup

Looking for some help.

I have 2 issues that relate to RMS

1- Trying to reinstall RMS onto VM with windows 10 and have everything with all the updates installed but when I go to create database from backup I get errors.

First error: cannot create database device '*_data' does not exit. Use sys.backup
if I create this client on the server then I get '*_log' does not exist

I've tried 2 different backups from 2 different machines.. I've tried sql 2005, 2008, 2012, always get same errors

Any help would be great

Hi Mahykal,

What version of SQL Server is installed where the backup was made? ie. SQL Server 2012 R2 Express

How was the database backup created?

How are you trying to restore the database?

Are you able to create a new database from RMSSample.bck?
