Great Plains User Setup Window

In Great Plains  User Setup window, there are 2 checkboxes.  One is for "Enforce Password Policy" and "Enforce Password Expiration".  If we mark these 2 boxes.  What does it mean to us? Below are my questions:

Question # 1: "Enforce Password Policy".  Does it mean GP have a password policy.  User needs to enter special characters in their GP passwords.

Question # 2:  If we mark the checkbox in "Enforce Password Expiration".  How long (the duration) does the password last?  Will the users' password last 90 days?  (How many days will be last in order for users to enter a new password).

Question # 3:  If the password expiration message comes up, users are trying to re-enter the same password.  Will the GP detect it right away?

Thanks,

Josey

The GP password policy and expiration behavior are controlled by your Windows Server and/or SQL Server password policy settings.

That's enforced by the windows server domain, not Dynamics GP

As for question one, there is no GP Policy, user needs to have their password controlled by the policy details configured on the windows server domain

For question two, the user will be forced to change their passwords after the number of days (which is defined on the password policy on the domain controller)

For question three, when the password is expired, the user will not be able to log in to Dynamics GP until their password are changed.

Let us know if you have any further concerns,

Frank is always there to answer briefly and just to the point ;)

One more thing, it is good to have a look at the help file of the window as shown below

For the windows password policy, here is a good reference with detailed explanation Windows- Change Password Policy Settings

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

As an aside, I'd like to mention that there are no warnings built in to GP that will warn you that your password will expire in x days. The password will simply stop working the expiration date. There are a couple of free addons that have been written to put in a warning. One of them is here: mbsguru.blogspot.com/.../password-expiration-prompt-using-vst-to.html

LOL Mahmoud.  I was just thinking the other day about how my responses are brief and to the point and yours are so thorough.  Difference in personalities plus I want the user to have to do some digging on their own :)

Leslie, do you think that this is worth looking for as an Update?  Do you think GP development will ever make this happen?

    Bill,

This is certainly within the realm of reason, and I don't think it would be very difficult. Do you know if there is already something on Microsoft Connect with this as a suggestion?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
