Upgrading from AX 2012 R2 to AX 2012 R3

Dear Experts,

I am going to perform the AX upgrade from AX 2012 R2 to R3. Currently we have so much customization over the existing system and as per the procedure of upgrading. We have to remove all the customization and perform the upgrade.

Question is, Is there any other way to perform system upgrade other than remove all customization and perform the upgrade than again implement the customization?

Best Regards,

Ahmed

Of course, the "code upgrade" phase is all about upgrading your customizations. AX can find code conflicts and even fix some issues for you.

Objects without any issues are simply kept in place without any change.

    In general -

If your system has many customizations that override standard functionality, as opposed to extending standard functionality, then you may want to plan for multiple code upgrade phases. Your previous customizations might be obsolete with the new version and not applicable any longer.

Now, given the path is from R2 to R3, I suspect you will only need a few iterations.

Obviously, removing customizations completely will also end in loss of data (persisted in any added tables and fields). Getting those data back might be just as painful as keeping the customizations through the code upgrade and have it data upgraded during the data upgrade phase.
