Copy Dimensions from Master Company

Hello, 

our Company is using a self made Master-Data-Management System.

Now  we want to Copy the Dimension Values from the Master Company to  the receiving Companys. 

There are some Issues with the Dimensions ID. 

Have anyone experience with that Topic ?

    Do you mean Dimension Set ID?

    These are created dynamically by BC each time it recognises a new combination of dimension values.

    I think you may struggle to define these yourself in a second company.

    But then you should be able to build your requirement around this. What you need to copy into the receiving company are the dimension values. I would focus on copying those and letting the ID assignment sort itself out using the standard functionality.

    The Dimension Set ID is one of Fields we want Copy.

    Is it not possible to copy them 1-to-1 to the receiving Company ?

    I wouldn’t like to say it’s impossible but it won’t be simple.

    The Dimension Set ID functionality is designed to massively reduce the data footprint of dimension data and thereby improve system performance.

    The dimension sets are managed on the fly by BC and you will run the risk of messing up how it functions which is why it is not easily messed with.

    You can copy the dimensions and the dimension values. You should not copy the dimension set ID's as they would be unique per company depending on what dimension combinations is in use.

    For copying dimensions and dimension values you can use a configuration package or use edit in excel. I prefer edit in Excel.

    Hi, just adding some info.

    A dimension set is a unique combination of dimension values. So It wouldn't make sense  if you only copy the Dimension Set ID, because those combinations didn't exist in the system.

    There is no problem with Dimension, Dimension Value, and Default Dimension.

    Thanks for you help.

    We dont wanne use the configuration packages. Our MDM have Master Company and all Data like Customer, Vendor, or Bank Accounts should be replicated to the receiving Company.
