SmartList Designer - anyone experiencing performance issues?

Hi

After a bit of feedback from others.  I have been setting up the odd new option using SmartList Designer.  I have had two main scenarios I was asked for:

- Segment Descriptions attached to the existing Account Transactions SmartList

- Originating Document Date attached to the existing Account Transactions SmartList

In both instances, I created a view of the extra data needed (in the first case because GL40200 is not structured well to just link to directly).

I think used SmartList Designer, started with Account Transactions and used the Relationship area to link to the new view.

The difference is performance is really quite remarkable - Account Transactions loads fine, the new one, really quite slow.

So I tried today to do the whole thing as a view at the database level and simply set up the link to the view - no difference - if anything, it might have been slower again.

Anyone else with experience on this or know why?

I am experiencing the same issue, have you been provided with a solution?

Thanks Heather! This helped me immensely in performance tuning a new smartlist.

    Hi

I have done more work on this one to investigate.  I looked at indexes and that is definitely not an issue.

So for what I was trying to do, I wanted to take the Account Transactions view as it is and add in the Segment Descriptions.

I have ended up finding that it is a direct relationship between the number of columns you select and the performance.

So the issue then becomes, if you want all the available columns from a current view (i.e. from the Account Transactions default, click to add columns and change to all), you have to add them - you can't have the default and have the rest available for lookup.  But if you do this, the performance is not good.

So I will put this one up to MS to find out if there is a solution to that.

    Cheers

    Heather

    Hi Ian

Thanks for the response - I missed it in amongst all my emails.  Yesterday morning driving to work, I thought the same thing.  I will be checking this out some more today.  My SQL skills are mediocre (but improving all the time) and I have never thought to index my views.  It hasn't been an issue until now, so I suspect this is going to give me a wider toolset.  Will update.

    Cheers

The fields you're joining to may not have indexes against them which means the SQL query needs to look through the entire table for the required records rather than just reading the index. How are you joining to the originating transaction table?
