One of the technician from Microsoft was getting the same error in their test database.
It is definitely a bug which could be resolved in next minor update as said by the technician.

I'm getting the same error - started happening out of nowhere. This workaround works, but not a permanent solution. Huzefa, did you get any feedback from Microsoft?

Yes that is the only workaround. Have already done this.
Still the error should not occur. Have raised a ticket with Microsoft.

I have the same issue with you. When I click the "Execute" button of the two fields, the error window pops up.
The workaround for me is that,
1. Click the “OK” button of the error message window.
2. Click "Look for more records", then it will work as usual.

Just saw your other questions. It does look like you are having problem with the account/ contact entity lookup itself.
In addition to Alex suggestion, can you check if you are able to select the account/ contact from any other entity? If yes check if you have the same lookup view set.

2. try in different browsers.
if above didn't work, i suggest you to raise a ticket to Microsoft.
