reservation/batch hierarchy question

Good day all, I'm struggling with arranging reservation matters in 2012 (with WMS3 I think)

lets say I've got a variety of licence plates of goods (all the same item) with a mix of batches.

I've got a pick-face/fixed-location for the item and goods get picked from here on sales orders.
However when there is a change of batch of this product I need to keep the batches separate.

So when the last pallet of a batch comes to the pick I need to isolate it and move it to another location.
So that the new batch can drop into the pick and ordering can continue and replenishments of the new batch can continue.

I'm currently using a transfer journal to move the old batch stock to another location that has a different Location Profile ID

Now I still want to be able to pick this stock for orders of smaller amounts than the (secondary) pick has.
For example: The last pallet of an old batch has 50 items on it. It gets moved into a secondary pick so that the new batch can be replenished in. the old batch is fine, I want to sell it, but I don't want to mix batches. I'd like AX to reserve any order under 50 items to this location, any order over 50 to the normal pick that will get replenished as needed until the batch runs out again.

Is there a combination of reservation hierarchies, location or item attributes that will allow this to happen?

thanks in advance.
