Planned Production order with 0 quantity BOM line

Hi All,

In our setup, we have bom line items that we do not track consumption on in ax.  For example, say you needed to use some lock-tight on a part.  We want to know we need it to make this part, but we aren't going to consume .0004 ounces or whatever on a bom line.

Creating a new production order manually will bring these 0 qty lines into the ProdBOM.
However, we use master planning and usually firm a planned production order.   But when I go in and make a new planned production order for an item with a bom line that has 0 qty, that bom line isn't pulled into that planned order's (ReqPO's) Derived Requirements (ReqTrans) records.

I've tried tracing the code, and I can see the system finds that records and inserts it into a record set for insertion... but the end-result is that any 0 qty lines are missing, and therefore after firming are also missing from the ProdBOM.

Is this a bug?  A setup issue?  Configuration issue?  Any help would be appreciated: I'm stuck.

Hello Andy, I'm having the exact same issue.  Did you find a solution?

It is an EDT issue. The BOM calculations only use three desimals...

You could change the BOM qty to be 4 ounces per 1000 unit instead of 0,004 per 1.

Or use an even smaller stocking unit so that you can define a larger number like "grains" or "milligrams".

Another option is to use 'Consumption' rounding up on the BOM line setup so that the system always consumes a minimum amount (say 0.01 units). But when we tried that it over-stated demand rather a lot.

What if we don't want to consume any quantity and just want to show the component on the Production BOM with a zero quantity?

That's fine. If you want AX to include it automatically in the Picking list journal, tick 'Complete picking list'.

Edit: that is only helpful if you can get the zero quantity lines on to the BOM of the Production order, which is not happening in this example where the production orders are created by Firming a planned order.

If anyone ever found a way to get zero quantity lines from an Item's BOM (or formula) to appear on the Production order BOM when the Production order is created via the Master planning module, please reply here!

    I have an answer.

I found an AX 2012 R3 hotfix: KB 2979789, Bug Id 3601875: BOM lines with zero quantity are not included on production BOM anymore since AX 2012 R2 CU8, which has the description The changes in the hotfix allow zero BOM lines for planned production orders.

I was experiencing this problem in an R3 environment which already had this hotfix installed, so I contacted MS support. They suggested I install hotfix KB 4345734. I find that this hotfix resolves my problem.
