Importing and Exporting of CRM Reports

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

I have created a new Report in Report Builder and Imported it into a CRM Org. I have further modified the report directly through report builder and can see the changes when I run the Report in CRM. I needed to take the report from Org 1 and Import it into Org 2 but when I now run the report from Org 2 the format is of the original copy that I imported into Org 1 prior to the direct updated via report builder. Basically what I see in Org 1 when I run the report is not what is exported (keeps reverting back to the original) why is this so?

    Hi John Hawkins JHAWK,

Make sure that you publish your customizations before exporting them. It is possible that you are exporting the old version of the report.

    Hi,

I suspect when you build the report project, the dll is not updated. Kindly make some change on the report design, and build it again, upload and publish.

The report is working as expected and printing in the correct format, so I would expect that it would allow me to Download the report and import it into another organisation. If you are using report builder to edit an existing uploaded report that is functioning correctly all you need to do is save the report changes and run the report and you will see the changes, thus the changes are saved correctly. So why does the original report always download instead of the updated report?

I am not exporting a solution, I am downloading an existing report.

    Hi John,

You can try to create a solution, include the report inside the solution. After that, import to your ORG 2.

I tried that and the original I modified copy of the report persisted

It seems that when deploying the changes from Report Builder the changes were applied only to the published version of the report on the SSRS. There is another copy of the report stored in the CRM database. This copy is exported when you export the report from CRM (as part of solution or as report definiton).

Maybe you could log in directly to the SSRS to export the modified version.

As Report builder is the recommended solution to make reporting changes in CRM it should work as expected.  Why would the copy stored in the CRM Data Base be different and how can we update that copy with Report Builder changes, this should be standard functionality

    Hi John Hawkins JHAWK,

There are actually various supported options for building reports in CRM. The Report Wizard can be used for basic reports, and then you have Advanced Reporting Options on top of that. The Report Builder is outside of the CRM environment so you cannot expect consistency between CRM and the Report Builder unless you deploy the Report Builder report to CRM.
