Constantly required to run GP Utilities

Hello,

We have a client with GP 10 in a Citrix environment.  There are two servers that are mirrors of each other, the second is used for load balancing.

Both servers had been working without an issue for a while. Now, when a user launches GP on the second server they are prompted to run utilities before accessing GP.  We ran utilities and it completed successfully (it doesn't appear that anything is actually being updated). If we click 'Launch GP' when utilities completes we are able to login without an issue.

If we logout of GP and try to open it again we are prompted to run utilities again.  If GP (not utilities) is run as administrator we are not prompted to run utilities. All the users have full read/write permissions on the GP installation directory.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Check where the DEX.INI resides. You are getting prompted to run Utilities because there is a line in the file that reads: SYNCHRONIZE=True. That line needs to read =False once the synchronize process is complete. Something for your average users is prevented them from updating that line. Usually this is security related.

    Thank you for your suggestion.  When looking at the DEX.INI file, Synchronize=FALSE. The top 3 lines are:

    Initial=FALSE

    Synchronize=FALSE

    AutoDisplayUpdate=TRUE

    Do you have any user profiles where users may have their own DEX.INI. Are you using Citrix Published Applications?

    Yes, we are using Citrix Published Applications.

    Ok, so we resolved the issue and I thought I would share incase anyone else runs into it.  We had a GP Users Group with Read/Write/Modify permissions on the GP Install folder.  We changed their security to 'Full Access.' We were able to launch GP without being prompted to run utilties.  We went back in and changed the security back to Read/Write/Modify and GP launched without an issue.  Not sure why it resolved the issue, but it did.

    For whatever reason, the server thought the DEX.INI was not being updated even though it was. By changing the access rights to full that somehow satisfied Windows so taking full rights away was no longer necessary. As long as it works all is well.

    3+ years later your response helped me solve the same issue in a GP 2013 environment.  I changed security exactly as you described and we are rocking and rolling.  Thanks for taking the time to post this and save me some frustration.

    That is why it is good to mark which answer worked.
