Autopopulating Department Account Number

Hello,

Usually, when we add a new account for a department in Account Maintenance, the name of the department autopopulates in the description field. For some of the departments, this is not occurring for some reason. Does anyone know how I can get the department's name to automatically appear in the Description field when I type in a new account for that department? I'd guess I didn't properly set up the department in the first place, but I don't recall how to fix that. Thank you.

    The description auto populates as derived from the segments included in this account.

    Go to Tools > Setup > Financial > Segment. Fill in the description for the segments (departments). Segment with no description will not populate when included in a new account number.

    The following script will help you determine the segments used in your Dynamics GP along with their description;

    SELECT  SGMTNUMB AS Segment_Postion,
            SGMNTID AS Segment_ID,
            DSCRIPTN AS Segment_Descripton
            FROM GL40200

    Yes mahmoud is correct. The department you have entered on the Account Maintenance window doesn't have the description on the Segment window. So, you need to add description for the your desired department in the segment window(Tools > Setup > Financial > Segment).
