Credit Card Data encryption

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi everyone,

just a question: is it possible to encrypt Credit Card data, even at the database level? I know AX uses Sql Data Base, so i think it is possible. If yes, as I import the CC transactions, will AX still be able to match them to the right credit card owner?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Michele

All right, I've changed the version tag for you (from Microsoft Dynamics AX (current version) to Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012).

Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) meets your requirement. It's completely transparent for the application layer, therefore everything works as usual. But I don't know your requirements about when the data should appear encrypted. If you want to see it encrypted even in the application (in some cases), TDE isn't the solution (although it still may be a part of your security solution).

Thank you very much for your answer, Martin.

The version of AX I'm using is 2012 R3, which works on on-premise environment.

Can you tell me what are the otions of encryption you are talking about?

My main issue is: if my CC data are encripted, the authomatic import of the transactions will stil work?

Thanks a lot again for your help!

You've selected Microsoft Dynamics AX (current version) as the version, which means D365FO. If it's correct, please tell us whether you're talking about a cloud-hosted environment (which uses SQL Azure) or an on-premises one (which uses SQL Server).

Then the answer depends on what kind of encryption you mean. One of the option is Transparent Data Encryption, if it's what you want.
