Portal Web Notification Configuration

I noticed that changes I've made on the CRM side (Creating new pages, entity lists, etc) aren't being shown on the portal.  Specifically if I create a new entity record.  I tried setting up the Portals Web Notification and have added a Web Notification URL [portal link]/Cache.axd.  Trying to enable notifications via the Web Notification Solution appears to just eternally spin.  Looking at the console log, it appears that there is a 500 (Internal Server Error) and an Uncaught [object Object] error that occurs on clicking Save and Publish or Disable Notifications.

Has anyone else had similar issues and fixed/configured this?

    Hello,

I would suggest to get in touch with AdxStudio/Microsoft support to clarify the situation.

I configured that notification functionality an everything worked fine for me for several deployments.

Can you please provide screenshots how you configured notifications in your CRM?

I've sent Microsoft a case.  Hoping they reply today.

I actually managed to fix issue I was having.  I didn't realize that there was an on demand workflow I needed to run, "Publish Web Notification Plugin Steps".  That allowed me to actually Save & Publish the Web Notification Solution.

In the Web Notification Solution, I've added the entities I wanted to get notifications that they were updated.  Now that I actually think about it, is this specifically only if the entity itself updated and not records?  My issue is with records not showing up on the portal.

"Fixed" it by turning on and then turning off the site...Microsoft responded saying that updates should show immediately and refreshing the cache is a 'last resort'...so....ya....

    Zabby,

I want to clarify something here for you and the benefit of others that may read this thread:

    • The new portal add-on utilizes an Event Hub to manage cache invalidation.
    • The Web Notifications should not be configured for the new portal add-on as it will only create unnecessary strain on the CRM and portal Web App.
    • You might be asking "Then why is there a Web Notification solution included with the OOB portal add-on?". The Web Notification has been left in place for the potential of future development geared towards an "On-Prem" version of the portal add-on similar to the Adxstudio Portals product where the code is accessible and the portal can be "self-hosted". This is different from the current offering where users do not have access to the code or portal host.

Currently the method you mentioned, by turning the site off and on again in the CRM Admin Center, is the only way to manually invalidate the portal cache. I would suggest that you disable your Web Notifications to eliminate unnecessary strain.

    Hi Patrick,

Is there any way we can call the Portal event hub from either a plugin or JS?  It would be very useful to be able to do so as we are finding it very difficult to display up-to-date data in our Entity Lists without the use of Web Notifications.

Primary entity of concern is the Connection entity, which we are creating via plugins firing on temporary records created via the portal, as well as directly via CRM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Andy

Read somewhere that instead of Web Notifications they are now listening on Change Tracking.
