AX2012 - TFS BUILD and Deploy

Can you help me with any document or article through which we can totally automate the build and deployment process in Ax2012 through TFS. There are some powershell scripts given for this purpose but how to create the workflow, build definition etc in TFS, that I couldn’t get anywhere.

Also when how can we merge using the workitems not the changeset number because a workitem might be consisting of many changeset number and in TFS i suppose one doesn’t get the option to merge on the basis of workitem.

Looking forward for your reply.

Here are a few articles. Please read them and then ask more specific questions, if needed:

Dynamics Ax Musings: Easy Automated Builds - Part 1

Axilicious: Release Management for VS2013 … and AX : Part 1

    Goshoom.NET: Preview of Release Management

Please elaborate what you want to merge, because you mix two different things there. Changesets are not workitems.

    Thanks Martin

I checked the first post for the creation of workflow. But I couldn't find the next part  for creation of build definition using the workflow. Is it available somewhere?

    Regarding the merging requirement

Suppose there are 2 branches Dev and Test

And we want to merge some changes from the Dev to Test. Now when we use merge feature then we get following options

    1. All changes up to a selected version

                   a. Changeset

                   b. Label

                   c. Date

                   d. Latest version

                   e. Workspace Version

    2. Selected changeset

No what we are looking for is option of specifying the workItem number instead of above two options. We can link the changeset with workitem at the time of doing the checkIn in AX. So a workItem can comprise of one or more than one changeset.

Now we want to merge for all the workitems which are in resolved/closed status. Is there any way we can achieve this.

    Thanks in Advance.

Read Creating a Build Definition in TFS, for example. Also don't forget about TFS documentation.

The feature you want for merging doesn't exist - you can vote for it on User Voice, if you want (I believe the request is already there). But now you have to use existing features. One solution is changing your process so you don't need this cherry-picking, you don't have "many" changestes for single work item, or that you can easily identify the changesets you want. An alternative way is to implement the feature by yourself.

Thanks Martin. Sorry for late reply

I didn't get time to go further on this. I will check all the stuff and see if I am able to create the auto build.
