Hi,

we are deploying a retail solution in Dynamics AX 2012 R3,

a server certificate is require for the Async Server and the Realtime service.

the full server name is Server.Domain.Loc,

can anyone tell me please where to get a certificate? I tried some websites but they don't provide certificates for local network.

and as this will be a production I can't use self-singed certificate.

This is a process you would want your security personnel usually to handle.  Especially if you want to use a wildcard certificate (makes things easier when you're not handling multiple certificates for Retail).

But in a nutshell, this website does a good job explaining.

Additionally, Technet has several walkthroughs, like this one for wildcards, or this one for generating a domain certificate.

    Thanks Solonon for reply,

so should I make a domain certificate or wildcards for Retail?

My wording may be confusing in this case.  You can make a domain wildcard certificate.  This is a certificate that secures the common name and all subdomains at your specified level, or to quote wiki,

"In computer networking, a wildcard certificate is a public key certificate which can be used with multiple subdomains of a domain"

In other words, it will trust your domain name, instead of looking for the specific server that it's been assigned to.

E.g., - server certificate, domain or CA issued, for server, XYZ.yourdomainname.com, is only trusted when that XYZ.yourdomainname.com is used.

A wildcard, depending on how it's set, trusts anything within yourdomainname.

A server certificate simply means that you have to make one for Async Server and one for the Store Server (and another if hardware station is involved and on another machine).  A wildcard means that if all three machines are within the same subdomain, you can use the same certificate for all three machines and if you want, use the same password or a different one per machine.

This is simplified explanation but should answer your question.
