Word report templates - formatting

Hi

I have been looking at blogs and manuals on using Word to create / modify documents for GP.  I have loved that this is part of the new version but had not up til now had the opportunity to play with them.

Is it possible to take an already modified and formatted document from Report Writer and migrate to the Word templates?  Everything I have read indicates that you need to use Report Writer to modify the report for adding new fields etc, and then put it to a Word template.

However, the formatting of the Word template, as far as I can tell, does not reflect the formatting of a modified report.

Does this mean that if a site wants to have both the RW version and the Word version looking the same that we have to modify the same report twice?

Look forward to your thoughts.

Cheers

Heather

    Hi Heather,

When the templates are created based on a modified report the fields will be available in the field list to be pulled to the Word Template. The templates are not created in the same format as the report writer reports.

You may also want to check the Word Template videos out the Dynamics Support and Services Blog.

Thanks Dave - I have these sorted now.  I've have nine months to figure it all out since this post.

    Hi Heather,

I did see that your post was kind of old but I happened to stumble upon it today and want to at least point you to the new blog.

I am glad you have figured things out with the Word Templates. They can be challenging at first but I think the overall outcome is very positive.  Not to mention they look pretty cool in Word!

Please post again on the Communities if we can be of further assistance.

    Thanks Dave.

It is nice to know about the new blog and if others pick up on this post, they will also find it.

I do like the Word document layouts - they were a nightmare to get my head around.  I think my first one I started from scratch five times!

    Cheers

    Hi Heather,

Oh, I have started over many times as well when working with templates. I guess we chalk that up to advancements and stack technology.

Keep an eye on the blog! I am working to get as much content pushed there as possible.

    Have a great week!

    Dave
