Dynamics GP on Windows Server 2008 and DEP

Is there an official statement regarding the use of Dynamics (32bit) on a Windows Server 2008R2 machine (64bit) and DEP?

We have found that certain shortcuts from the left side menu (Icons of "Home" "Financial" "Sales" or "Purchasing") cause the program to crash:

 Problem signature:

  Problem Event Name:                        BEX

  Application Name:                             Dynamics.exe

  Application Version:                           10.0.332.0

  Application Timestamp:                     4d5c00a7

  Fault Module Name:                          rtutils.dll

  Fault Module Version:                        6.1.7601.17514

  Fault Module Timestamp:                  4ce7b9ac

  Exception Offset:                                00001e1a

  Exception Code:                                  c0000005

  Exception Data:                                   00000008

  OS Version:                                          6.1.7601.2.1.0.18.10

  Locale ID:                                             1033

Additional information about the problem:

  LCID:                                                     1033

My research has resulted in two primary explanations: the rtutils.dll relation "was fixed with SP1 for 2008 R2", and "Remove application.exe from DEP".

The latter, adding dynamics.exe to the exclusion list of DEP has stopped the aforementioned errors.

What I need to know is whether or not this is a requirement based on the versions of software we are running, or if we have some other (e.g. third party) product that is the culprit and our workaround is not addressing the true problem.

Thanks much for any assistance you can provide.

Our build is:

Microsodt Dynamics GP Professional - 10.00.1757
Dexterity - 10.0.332.0
SmartList - 10.00.1620
Database - SQL Server
System - Windows Server 2008 (R2 Ent. SP1)
ODBC Driver Manager - 03.80.0000
ODBC Driver - 09.00.2047
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP3) - 10.0.5500.0 (X64)

    Hi Stuart,

There is no reason that we are aware of. Have you tried to set an exclusion for the Dynamics.exe like I mentioned?

I appreciate the reply, and likely you have provided all the information I need.  Is there a reason, however, that I have to disable DEP in this instance?

As I said, access to certain shortcut elements cause GP to crash unless I turn off DEP.

There is no known issue with what you are describing Stuart. DEP only scans the Dynamics.exe file which you can setup as an exclusion.
