AX Installation - Client or Server

Dear AX experts,

I got a requirement from client to install AX instance in a PROD server to balance the Load.

There is already main PROD instance which has AOS runs in it.

There is another instance which balances the load unfortunately the Windows server crashed, hence client asked us to install AX in another windows server.

Please advise in this scenario do I need to install AX client or Server ?

Also in Main Prod instance client has AX 2012 R2 , so in  another instance can I install R3 ? will it supports ?

    It depends on whether you want to spread the load on server or client. Both is possible.

    The version must the be same (don't forget hotfixes too).

    Thanks much for quick response.

    I have the installation files in folders named as AX , AX_CLIENT

    The AX one contains Setup files  where as AX_Client one contains application files.

    Example: dynamicsax2012r2-kb2858835

    I also have some more installation files under the folder with name as

    SW_DVD5_Dynamics_AX_2012_R2_MultiLang_MLF_X18-70473

    Kindly suggest which one to use

    Sorry if my question is dumb, I am new into AX installation activities
