Way to check which users have CRM for Outlook plugin currently installed?

I am merging some contacts and worry about removing the contact from their Outlook in that process.

I don't believe we have many users that have it installed so if I know which ones do, I can take the necessary actions to ensure they get it back into their outlook (I have a "follow" contact sync setup).

So is there a way to see which users out of all of them have it installed?

Thanks!

extra question: Is there a way to merge two contact records and then have the owner of the deactivated contact either Follow or get shared with the Active Contact?

    Hi Hodges,

One thing that has worked on my end was to sent out a business practice (how to guide) on how to configure the URL to the Outlook Client.

We have a separate tool that pushes the software out to the end users workstation, and within that tool, we have a health check that can verify if the user has completed the setup or not.

To answer your extra question, not that I know of. When you Merge two contacts, you are essentially merging the data, not the follow portion.

You could run an advanced find based on a common value of all of the active contacts and follow them in bulk.

I hope that this helps a bit.

Yeah I don't think there is a way to check the outlook portion. Thanks for the other tip.

For others who may find this I figured out a way to create a workflow to autofollow the master contact:

When you merge two contacts, the subordinate contact's (that gets deactivated) "Master Contact" field gets filled in. You can reference this in a workflow. See stackoverflow.com/.../dynamics-crm-2011-run-workflow-process-when-merging-contacts

For doing the following, use "create record" and choose Follow entity. You can then setup what record it follows and who follows the record there.

I'll keep this question open for a day or two more in case anyone else knows more about the Outlook situation.
