One transaction - two currencies - general ledger problem

I need to post a general ledger journal.

R10 000 000 left one G/L Account. ZAR is my default currency.

What landed in the other G/L Account is $590,534.91.

How on earth do I do this?

I tried the journal with 2 lines, without balancing accounts, with the same document number, but it doesn't want to post.

Try using some dummy 9900 G/L account as Balancing on both lines.

But I didn't fully get the situation:

    Your default currency is ZAR.

You have an invoice in Indian Ruppee - 10 000 000

And You want to pay/or was paid to You in USD ?

Not Indian Ruppee - ZAR - South African Rand - Symbol R.

I have two investment accounts, but the accounts have different currencies. One is in R, one is in $.

I move Rands from the one, and it lands in $ in the dollar account.

check out the currency setting in your BC and take a look at what accounts are used on the respective currency card. try replicate in a sandbox, and see what happens if you choose to balance with a different account. Also checkout if there are field on the journal line which might involves use of a different currency.

Hi, as far as I know, the standard doesn't allow this. You should also set USD in the Currency Code of the Transfer Account line. Let the system automatically calculate the amount based on your exchange rate instead of typing directly.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

Set Your investment accounts as Bank Accounts, and assign Currency to them (blank for local ZAR currency). Create seperate Bank Account Posting Group with the specific G/L account for each of them.
Then on the journal lines use Bank Account instead of G/L account.

I think it was not possible to do in 1 line - Account and Balancing Account to be Bank accounts, so You might need to use a transfer account as Balancing account on both lines.
