If email tracking is ON, will all emails be tracked that go through the Outlook SMTP?

Hi,

We are using Dynamics 365 CE. I am trying to figure out, if we have email tracking turned on and we send emails from a different application (bespoke) but using the Outlook SMTP, will those emails be tracked against the contact in Dynamics? I don't know if the tracking happens via the Outlook application or if everything that goes via Outlook SMTP gets tracked.
