    Hi Kiran,

The simplest way is to export the modifications from the USR layer of AX 4.0 and import the XPO file back into the USR layer of AX 2009 after upgrading. If the modification is as small as you say, everything should go fine.

You can then check your customization after you export it from AX 4.0 and import it into AX 2009. But be careful - if the import passes without errors, it does not mean that your customization will work. You will need to test it on the new environment. You can use this as a check for errors, but we suggest assistance from a Dynamics AX expert in migrating (or rolling up) to AX 2009 in any way. This will assure you that your customizations made it without errors.

In case the modifications are larger than you mentioned, the upgrade methodology is described in detail on the Microsoft MSDN site at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa497042(AX.10).aspx. You can also find more information at the Merit Matters Blog - http://www.meritsolutions.com/meritmatters/.

Let me know if you have any more questions. Good luck on the upgrade, and enjoy AX 2009!

    Hi Vaswani,

I am giving you two possible ways for moving USR to VAR.. Just go through it...

    1.  You at 1st logged in Ax 4.0 in USR layer mode & then export all the USR Layer customised objects. After completing export then you have to delete all the USR Layer Objects from AOT or Project. After completing this procedure you will log in again in AX 4.0 in VAR layer mode. Here, you import all the objects those you are exported prevoiusly. This procedure will convert your code USR layer to VAR layer. Right now your all customisations are in VAR Layer. There is no customisation in USE layer. And, now you can import the 4.0 application into 2009 application file & then you can deploy it as per the procedure. Now your 2009 and 4.0 applications does not have any USR layer code.

    2. Another way is you can copy all the AX 4.0 application lin AX 2009 application folder. Then you have to log in AX 2009 in USR Layer mode & run Upgradation project. Upgradation project is created under the private folder with AX User layer Customised objects. Here you have to export all the objects or project & after completing export then you have to delete all the USR Layer Objects from AOT, then log off the AX 2009. Re-Log in again 2009 in VAR Layer mode. Import all the objects those were exported. Now you dont have any USR layer customisation, all are converted into VAR layer. Hope it will help u....:)

Before u do this please take a database & application back up for safety... :)

    Hi DAX Tech people,

Any one check and tell me whether my steps are correct or did i missed anything .

Upgrading from AX 4.0 SP2 to Ax 2009:
    Steps followed by me.

    1. I am admin user, have all rights in Local System and SQL server.
2.I had clean up my data (In Ax 4.0 AOT )using the step given in upgrade guide.
3.I copied my Application file and Database of Ax 4.0 SP2.
4.Installing Ax 2009 with developer installation and mentioning my existing database of Ax4.0 in the database while going thru the wizard. Cleared the AOS automatic startup and installed successfully.
    5. I copied my Application file of AX 4.0 and Paste it in the Application file location of AX 2009. In ax 2009 server config utility i selected my application file of Ax 4.0 and my AX 4.0 Db and started the Ax 2009 AOS service. Service is not starting.

If anything missing in my step, Plz reply and mention it.
