Adding Additional Line Comment Space to the Blank Invoice Form in Sales

Hi guys,

I recently started working in Report Writer editing line items, comments, and etc. I've got my SOP Invoice the way i want it, so now i'm moving over to the Blank Invoice Form for some minor edits.

I want to increase the line comment length. In the SOP report, all i had to do was make a calculated field as so:

Line Comments 1 = FUNCTION_SCRIPT(  RW_SOPLINECommentText  SOP_LINE_WORK.SOP Type  SOP_LINE_WORK.SOP Number  SOP_LINE WORK.Line Item Sequence  SOP_LINE_WORK.Component Sequence  80  1  )

I'm looking in Report Writer for a  RW_INVLINECommentText of something similar and i'm not seeing anything... Can anyone give me some ideas as to the names of the functions/fields i'm looking for?

Thanks!

Kim

    OK,

I see you are, in fact, using the Invoicing module. I looked through my list of UserDefined Functions and I did not see anything referencing the invoicing form. If you have Great Plains Power Tools from Winthrop Development, you could create your own user defined function and solve your problem. Contact your partner or go to Mekorma www.mekorma.com/.../gp-power-tools.aspx

and take a look. There's an example of how to use this product to make TW functions on either David Musgraves blog or Marianno's blog, I can't remember which.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Hi,

You speak of a the RW_Invline Comment Text. RW Invoices do not have line comments. You also mentioned going over to the blank invoice form for minor edits. The formula for the Sop Blank Invoice form is the same one you used on the SOP Invoice. Precisely which report are you trying to edit? Are you using both SOP and the Invoicing module? Please provide the actual Report Writer name of the report you are trying to modify and I feel certain we can help.

    Kind regards,

    Lreslie

the comment text which I included on the sop blank invoice form did not work for me.  I do not see it on the report.

Shefin, I'll try your fix. I'm trying to increase comment length (show more than four comment lines) so i can see my full comments, as some of my comments are too long for the document. Thanks!

Tim, I've read that article and it works perfectly for editing the Blank SOP Invoice form, however, will those same formulas work on the Blank Invoice form? I'm cautious since it looks like it's pulling only SOP data. Thanks!

If your intention is to show more than 4 line of comment  then you can use the Report Writer Function RW_GetCommentText

    FUNCTION_SCRIPT( RW_GetCommentText IVC_LINE_WORK.Comment ID 80 1)

IVC_LINE_WORK.Comment ID - taken from Invoicing Transaction Amounts Work, Comment ID

    Hope This Helps !!!

I don't know the technical id for this field but this is what i do know:

We're dealing with invoice entry, not SOP entry, and i'm working to lengthen the item comment, which is located under the item description on the report. Here's some screenshots of this field.

    Screenshot-_2800_392_2900_.pngScreenshot-_2800_392_2900_.png

I'm 99.9% positive this has to be a calculated field, as the string isn't long enough. In Report Writer, this field is noted on the sheet as Comment (1), (2),(3) & (4) under the body section.

    Thanks for your help!

One question i would like to ask over here is

Are you trying to make the Calculated Field to bring whats available under the Comment ID Field?

If yes then no need for Calculated Fields, in SOP Blank Invoice Form itself there is Sales User-Defined Work History table under which  you can find Comment Text field which brings all the values in the Comment ID.

If no, then please check the below link, if it helps.

    Thanks

Hi Shefin, I can't seem to find this table in the calculated field definition, under functions or fields. Could you lead me in the right direction?
