Why is the balance due different than the current balance on some statements?

Has anyone else had this problem?
1 - It may be because statements are set to say end of month and you looking at account balance in between the dates. Close the billing date to today's date and generate statement. Are they still different?
2 - Some one may have deleted transactions (not journal images).
