GP Business Analyzer Companion App

Has anybody managed to successfully use this new exciting feature with mobile devices?

I'm deploying this on premises, no Azure involved.

I've configured the services, as far as I can tell, successfully, using self-signed certificate (for now). We have SSRS deployed with bunch of reports for a long time, so no issues there.  I've downloaded the app for Android, entered the information in settings and I'm getting this "Loading" spinning thing that seems not to get anywhere. I configured the firewall accordingly, seems correct, because at first I was getting a server connection error. Now I'm not getting the error, just the Loading step. I'm not sure if it's because we have a lot of reports or what is going on.

Information on this feature is non-existent. I wasn't able to find anything on the apps themselves.

Any insights, or even screenshot of what is being loaded would be great. The feature seems very cool and has a lot of potential for us, would love to be able to use it.

GP 2015 R2.

Thanks,

Galina

    Hi Galina,

Thank you for the details.. yes this is right, most probably a SQL server security issue, as most of the users are going to be authentication thru Windows security, you have to make sure those AD user Accounts are added to the SQL server global security and then use some of the pre-defined roles for the SSRS / Excel out-of-the-box SQL security roles. Those roles are present in each GP company DB and start with rpt_xxx .

Pick the one that fits the need for your data (it could be rpt_executive or rpt_sales manager). There is one role that includes all the security called 'rpt_power user' ...

Frankly the BA and SSRS deployment papers don't talk a lot about the security to access the data and it can be a little bit confusing.  Have a look at this blog post from my friend Mariano Gomez:

    http://dynamicsgpblogster.blogspot.ca/2013/06/microsoft-sql-server-security-roles-and.html

or this blog post from the community :

    Hope this helps..

Those are the three reports Business Analyzer client will take it's configuration data from, they are located in the root folder of the Reporting Services.

I think I'm actually on to something. When I start Business Analyzer client I get a message "Error loading roles". I'm thinking it has something to do with windows accounts roles assignment.

We use just SQL logins, so there should be some step somewhere I'm missing in regards to Windows authentication on some level.

    Does anybody has any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Hi Galina,

Could you be more specific ? from where do you get that "BusinessAnalyzerUserRolesReport"... ? in GP ? in SSRS ?

Every report that you can show in the BA application is also available either in GP or in SSRS (BTW those are all SSRS based reports/KPI's).

I've checked if the three reports for Business Analyzer return data and it seems that the BusinessAnalyzerUserRolesReport returns an empty set, the other two seem correct. I wonder if I'm missing something in BA setups, maybe?

    Hi Galina,

Have you checked the white paper from MS Technet ?

    technet.microsoft.com/.../dn508393.aspx

There is a PDF document that you should download about the setup of the BA service :

    www.microsoft.com/.../confirmation.aspx

You need to download from Customer Source some application software to install on your GP / SSRS server in order to get this work (it's called GP Companion Application Service) :

    go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=330612

There is one for GP direct and one for SSRS.

    Hope this helps...
