word templates are blank when printing

using gp 2015 and office 2013. finally have it emailing but problem with the templates. when i modify the blank order template and look at it in word, all the fields are showing with xxxxxx as expected. but when i email or print it all that shows is the number of items, the cost, and total sales. all other fields are showing up blank.

i have the use modified report in alternate/modified reports checked for the form

when i try to add other fields just to be sure they are adding, no changes occur on the template

i'm sure it is a pretty basic answer but this program is not at all intuitive and the help menu is difficult also.

any guidance will be appreciated.

Hi Pinewood,

Glad that you are now able to email the templates.

If you modified the templates, you need to go to the Template Maintenance window to provide access to the modified one.

Note that the Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports window is for reports modified using Report Writer and does not relate to Word Templates.

also, i just noticed that any changes in word that i make on the template and save with ctr S, the changes are not saved on the template when i bring it back into word. Why is that?

thanks....yes i did select the template as the default. what is very curious is that the template are printing blank for the company info, customer info, date, etc in the header even though the fields are showing up in word. this goes for the original and the modified template. also, even when i make modifications they are not being saved in the modified template.

Hi Pinewood,

Have you imported your template modified version into GP ?

When you modify a template, you have to import it back in GP with the "green plus signe" in the template maintenance window. That is probably why your not seeing any change to your template in GP.

If you modify a Word Template by adding fields, you must also add those fields to the underlying modified report in Report Writer. If the fields that are not printing are not in the base report, that could be the root cause.
