Microsoft GP 2010 General Posting Journal Report: Journal Entries sorted by Input

Hi everyone,

One of our clients recently asked for their General Journal Entry Inquiry Reports to be sorted by the order they entered the information. They found that in this specific report GP sorts the report by their account numbers. As a result, it becomes difficult for their team to review these entries.

After looking at the General Journal Edit List, this report sorts the accounts in which they were inputted. Does anyone know how to modify the General Posting Journal Report in Report Writer to do the same as the General Posting Edit list?

I looked into the account number string for both reports in Report Writer (General Journal Edit List and General Posting Journal) and they share the same properties - Table: GL_Allocation_Register_WORK. TableName: Allocation Amounts Temporary.

Thanks,

Ronald

    Hi Mahmoud,

Thanks for the reply, I've looked into this article previously, but I think this only helps to change the report so that it sorts by ACCOUNT NUMBER. I'm looking to have the General Journal Posting Report to sort by ENTRY (how the user entered the entries). Note that the General Journal Edit List does sort by entry.

    Thanks again,

    Ronald

You need to consider the line Line Sequence Number (Distribution Sequence Number), in which you will find increments of the "16384", For instance (16384, 32768, 49152, 65536 ... etc)

Each distribution table in Dynamics GP has a corresponding Distribution Sequence Number stored in the original distribution table, which indicates its position in the distribution entry window (as it is inserted).

In this essence, consider the same logic included in the reference above by creating a new sort based on the Sequence Number.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi Mahmoud,

Sounds good, I'll try that and reply back here if I can successfully do this. Thanks again!

    Hi,

When I initially create the Journal Entry, I can enter the information in the order I'd like.

                   Debit     Credit

    1a           x

    2b           x

    2a                           xx

    1b                           xx

When Idecide to print the transaction from the Transaction Entry Window or Batch Window, GP will keep the line distribution sequence of the transactions in this table, the Unposted Table.  In other words, the General Posting Edit List will pull data in the format it is currently in from the Unposted Table.

The issue here is once I post the Journal Entry, GP automatically sorts the entries by account.

                   Debit     Credit

    1a           x

    1b                           xx

    2a                           xx

    2b           x

This happens when the Unposted Table is moved to the Open Table. Furthermore, GP does NOT save the original format of the data when it was in the Unposted Table. Ultimately, once Ipost the Journal Entry, the General Posting Journal Report will pull data in the format it is currently in from the Open Table.

Is there a way to make it so that the original format will remain the same in the Open Table?

So there is  your answer.  You have enabled sorting option and that is why your journal is getting sorting by account, department and product/project....

    Case closed.

    Cheers!

    Sanjay
