Printing Statements using SSRS

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Hello,

I currently use Forms Printer to allow me to use SSRS reports in GP.

It works well, however, I was wondering if GP allows hooking an SSRS report directly to the print engine.

I can certainly already print this data in SSRS, however, I want the history data written back to GP that the statement was print on X date etc.

Forms Printer does this.  But I am considering alternatives when it comes to E-Mailing the Statements from GP.   Again, Forms Printer does do this, but other options seem to handle the flagging of customers that will receive Paper Vs. Email versions of the Statement better.

I do not want to load two third party packages that essentially do the same thing!

I would like to be at a stage where my SSRS reports are deployed natively.  Then I can evaluate 3rd parties for paperless statements.

Thank you,

Gene

    Hi Joseph,

I still have not implemented an email version of the reports.  But yes, via forms printer, I use SSRS for all GP SOP reporting.

I have been playing with SSRS in SQL 2016 and it prints to PDF by default now, I may be able to harness this?  However, I am having other rendering issues because of the PDF output.  Page Margins are not being obeyed in all cases and I have to put a footer for an OCR line in a ferry specific location for banks to read, however, the new report engine is shifting the line up on the page.  It is a bit frustrating.

Did you ever get a solution for creating a customer Statement in SSRS?  I'm looking to do the same.

    Thanks

    Hi Keat2008,

    Thanks for the response.

I know what you are saying.  Yes, I am strong in SQL.

I would have to insert into tables such as RM40501.  I need to save the Note sent, Flag so Re-Print is enabled etc.

The problem with SSRS and a Stored Proc., I would have to assume the user printed the statement.

They could just view it and exit.  In that case, the insert already took place.  Incorrect data will be saved.

I would save a note that the statement was sent to the customer, and to print again they would have to select

re-print, though the statement had never been printed or sent to the customer.

GP handles this already.  I just do not want to use Report Writer, I want to use SSRS.

I will ask... Is last statement date enough information?  Though it may not be accurate.

I am thinking it is not, being as they pre-defined a bunch of notes etc.

Oh, I also want the users to be able to use the GP tools.  Select Ranges and Report type etc.

I guess I am also blurring this a little as I have invoices in mind as well.

SSRS works by running a stored procedure.  In theory you should be able to change the stored procedure to add an update statement for the customer on table RM00103 column LASTSTDT.

Do you know much about SQL?

    Hello Rosemary,

I played with the e-mail functions in GP for a little while.  I ran in to some limitations with it though.

I have a footer on my statement that is an OCR calculation made up of Amount, Customer Number etc. that banks can use to scan the document and payment.  I have not found a way to put the on-the-fly calculation on the page.  This is a must have.   I currently provide this, so I cannot take it away.

I also find the templates a little clunky.  But that is because I use SSRS 99% of the time.

I do like the flagging of who will receive an email vs hardcopy.

Forms Printer does not do this.  They do let you join to any table including tables create by the user.  It is very flexible.  However, I then become the administrator of who is or is not getting an email.  I'd rather the frontend handle this and let the accounting team maintain this type of data.

    Hi Gene,

I would have never thought of using SSRS to print statements. We used continuous alignment forms and then we started emailing the statements.

A copy of the documents though are saved on the Server. Currently all our customer prefer emailing of statements, physical statements are sent to those who may not have an email contact.

Question, if the paperless facility is in GP why are you considering another option.

    Regards

    Rosemary
