GP Word Templates for Quotes 2010

Posted on by 75,730

Please remind me of the little trick to get Word Templates to appear and/or print. I want to print a quote using the Word Template. When I go to print it to screen or printer, it goes through the motions and the document does appear in the %temp% folder but it will not appear on the screen or print. I have vague recollections of some little needed to get past this. Hopefully someone will remind me of what that trick is.

I am having the same issue.  I am using the same version of GP as Richard.  I am also using Word 2007.  The server is Citrix Metaframe.  Users have no problems running other applications.  I have tried all of the above suggestions.

Dave, the GP version is 11.00.1860. None of the word templates work on the server. The DSN uses the server name not an IP address. I could upgrade Office to 2010 and attempt to apply the lastest payroll tax update to GP, if you think that might help.

Again, only the server has this problem. The workstations, even the ones with Office 2007 work fine.

    Hi Richard,

    Thank you for the reply.

Can you verify the version of GP for me? If you are not running at least GP 2010 R2 can you upgrade and let me know if the issue continues?

Also does this issue happen with all other templates such as the SOP Invoice or the Purchase Order?

Have you taken a look at the ODBC yet? If not see if it is using an IP address. Run the following statement and then setup a new ODBC with the server name returned.

    select @@servername

I look forward to getting your update.

    Dave

2.0.5022 is the version of Open XML SDK 2.0. I logged in as the domain admin and into GP as 'sa' and when you print the template, you will see in the upper right-hand corner of the GP screen it says processing template 2 and then 1 and then nothing. Word does not open to show the template. If you go into the %temp% folder the docx file is there.

Re: GP Word Templates for Quotes 2010

    Hi Richard,

Thank you for verifying the that Office was installed. I have had that one get me before when users hit a TS or Citrix box.

I do remember an issue with Server 2003 and it ended up be a problem in the registry. In order to resolve that we had the actual Administrator account log into the machine, log into GP as the regular user or 'sa' and print. Once that was done then the templates started to print correctly. It was the Administrator logging into the machine that corrected the registry.

Let us know if that takes care if it for you. If it doesn't then I would like to get answers to the following questions.

What is the version on the Open XML SDK 2.0?

Are you running GP 2010 R2?

Is this happening with all templates or just the Quote?

Dave, overlooking the obvious is obvious. On the workstations there is Office 2010 and on the RDP Server is Office 2007. I have admin rights to the domain and all of our users launch applications on the server all the time. This server happens to be a W2003 server.

    Hi Richard,

This may sound like a simple question but does this sever have Word 2003, 2007 or 2010 installed?  If so, do users have access to launch applications from the server?

Please update when you are able.

Re: GP Word Templates for Quotes 2010

Dave, the Blank SOP Quote Form has not been modified and there is a copy of Open XML SDK 2.0 installed. This happens to be the server we RDP into for remote access. If we go to any of our other computers in our offices the templates print just fine. We print sales and purchases orders using the templates.

Re: GP Word Templates for Quotes 2010

    Hi Richard,

If you are using, or had used  a modified report writer report in the past for the Quote I would start with going into Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports and verify the radio button is marked next to either the canned or modified report. If both the radio button are clear this could be the issue.

If Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports is good then verify the user has full control of the temp directory and is a local admin on the workstation.

Next check Programs and Features to verify you see Open XML SDK 2.0.  If not you can download that from Office.

Do you see any error icons at the bottom of the main GP window after printing the Quote Template? If so, then there could be an issue with a modification that was done to the template.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Please post back if the Community can be of further assistance.

    Have a great day!
