Add serial number for an Order-to-Order binding, possible?

Hi,

In our manufacturing setup, we make a sales order and then a released production order through the sales order planning, which reserves some of the sales order lines. However, when we wish to add a serial number later in the process, we experience a constraint due to the Order-to-Order binding.

Has someone an approach to make it possible to add serial numbers to sales order lines even though these lines have an Order-to-Order binding..?

Thanks for any help.

Best Regards,

    Mainak,

The reason for the message is the Binding of the Order to the Production Order. Go to the sales order and look at functions and order tracking. There will be a production order listed there, this means the production is distinctly linked to the sales order, and the lots/serial no. being produced on the production order will be used on the sales order, you cannot choose stock as they are in production. How much later in the process are you choosing a Serial Number? Is the Serial No. the finished output or component? Are you trying to select another Finished Item earlier than the Production Order completion (take an item from stock)? You could go the Sales Order, Line/Related Information/reservation entries and cancel the reservation.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi Steven,

Thanks for your respond! In this scenario, the serial number is linked to the finished output and is specifically made to each output based on the components in the output.

Anyhow, one way of doing this, as you wrote, would be to go to functions -> order tracking -> open the production order and manage it from the production order. This is just a long way to manage this. As you suggest, another option would be to cancel the reservation, but then we will miss the link of a sales/production order, and also add one more task.

    Best Regards,
