Problem with Item Look up (search items)

Hi community,

I am running RMS on a Database where the descriptions of the items are in Greek and Latin characters. When I am searching for products with English (BANANA) description is OK. But when I search for products with Greek (ΠΑΞΙΜΑΔΙΑ) description then I got no results.

Could you please give me your insights because the Item Look up function is the most important for my customer and I am afraid that without it RMS would be useless for him.

Thanks in advance.

By the way, don't think there is a "language pack", this is something that have to be done by the partners....

    Hi again.

RR Utilities should be free, if You are on BREP...as I know, but you have to talk to your Partner on this...

About (2), this could be done for sure, please contact me over e-mail and I'll send You an example...

    Kind regards, A.

RE: Problem with Item Look up (search items)

Thank you so much Antonijo for your elaborate answer, but unfortunately does not solve my problem.

    (1) I put the greek description in the SubDescription fields but the find doesn't bringing results back.

Points (3) and (4) could be  a solution for a small convinient shop but my customer has around 20.000 items, and most of them are in Greek.

    (2) What I think would be usefull is the HTML add-on but I cannot imagine how the search results from the add-on can be transfered/communicated in the RMS fields. If you know a way to integrate it with RMS that would be wonderful.

What I was thinking as a possible solution is whether Retail Realm has some language packs for non-latin languages like Slavic, Russian, Hebrew, Greek etc.

Does anybody know how we can get this RR Utilities?

    Hi Emmanouil,

I'm thinking of few possible solutions...maybe they suite your customer...

1º) If you have the Greek description in one of the SubDescription fields, per each item, I beleive the Find feature should work (not sure, you have to test it, it works with slavic characters)

2º) Why don't You do a small html search add-on, to look for the items using the Greek characters? The HTML can be called from a custom button on the left side? Think HTML should be saved in Unicode or UTF-8 format, to recognize the Greek characters....

3º) If there are no many items, maybe creating a Custom TaskPads for the POS and drilldown for Items (this could be a time consuming)...

4º) If your customer uses items like banana, food and stuff, maybe creating a list of barcodes on side, for scanning... yeah, possible errors, but...

Contact me if you need more help...

    Kind regards, A.
