No default domain in Customer Insights - Journeys trial

Hi all, lately I noticed that no default authenticated domain is created automatically in a trial environment.
This makes it very difficult to set emails and journeys live.

Really hope someone has a solutions for this...

    Hi there!

In trial versions, the default authenticated domain is a generic one provided by Microsoft. I believe it typically ends in like dyn365mktg.com or something - but it is intended for only testing / demo.

You'll need to authenticate your own domain to ensure email deliverability and to align with your org's branding. See below

    hope this helps!

    Hi Holly,

Thanks for your swift reply. The challenge is that I don't have access to another domain. That's why up till now I always used the generic default one just for demo purposes.

Unfortunately there seems to be a bug now and I'm looking for a solution how to still set up the default generic authenticated domain.

    Hello RD-28020936-0,

You've hit on a common and frustrating issue with Dynamics 365 Customer Insights - Journeys (formerly Marketing) trial environments. The automatic creation of a default authenticated domain, which is essential for sending emails and going live with journeys, often fails.

Here's a breakdown of why this happens and how to work around it:

    Understanding the Problem:

    • Domain Authentication (DKIM/SPF/DMARC):

      • For email deliverability and compliance, Dynamics 365 Customer Insights - Journeys requires you to authenticate your sending domain using DKIM, SPF, and DMARC records.
      • In production environments, Microsoft usually guides you through this process or automatically creates a subdomain for you.

    • Trial Environment Limitations:

      • Trial environments often have limitations or restrictions to prevent abuse.
      • The automatic domain authentication process might be disabled or unreliable in trials.

    • Impact on Email and Journeys:

      • Without an authenticated domain, you can't send emails or set journeys live, making it difficult to test the full functionality of Customer Insights - Journeys.

      •

    Solutions and Workarounds:

    1. Manual Domain Authentication (Recommended for Trials):

      • Concept:

        • Instead of relying on the automatic process, manually authenticate a domain you own or a free subdomain.

      • Steps:

        1. Obtain a Domain:

          • Use a domain you already own or register a free subdomain (e.g., using services like DuckDNS, No-IP, or similar).

        2. Add Domain in Customer Insights - Journeys:

          • Go to Settings > Email Authentication.
          • Click + New.
          • Enter your domain name.

        3. Generate DNS Records:

          • Dynamics 365 will generate the necessary DKIM, SPF, and DMARC records.

        4. Add DNS Records to Domain Registrar:

          • Log in to your domain registrar's DNS settings.
          • Add the generated DNS records.

        5. Verify Domain in Customer Insights - Journeys:

          • In Customer Insights - Journeys, click Verify for each record.

      • Advantages:

        • Works reliably in trial environments.
        • Gives you full control over your domain authentication.

      • Disadvantages:

        • Requires technical knowledge of DNS records.
        • Requires access to a domain registrar.

    2. Contact Microsoft Support (For Persistent Issues):

      • Concept:

        • If you're unable to manually authenticate a domain or if you believe there's a problem with the trial environment, contact Microsoft Support.

      • Steps:

        1. Create a support ticket through the Microsoft 365 admin center.
        2. Explain the issue and provide details about your trial environment.
        3. Ask for assistance with domain authentication.

      • Advantages:

        • Potentially resolves underlying issues with the trial environment.

      • Disadvantages:

        • Might take time to get a response.
        • No guarantee of a solution.

    3. Use a Development Environment (If Available):

      • Concept:

        • If you have access to a non-trial development environment, use that for testing.

      • Advantages:

        • Development environments are usually more stable and have fewer limitations.

      • Disadvantages:

        • Not always available.
        • Might require additional setup.

    4.

    Important Considerations:

    • DNS Propagation:

      • After adding DNS records, it might take some time for them to propagate.
      • Use a DNS lookup tool to verify propagation.

    • Security:

      • Ensure you're following security best practices when configuring DNS records.

    • Trial Limitations:

      • Be aware that trial environments have limitations and might not be suitable for production use.

    •

    Recommendation:

    • Manually authenticating a domain (Option 1) is the most reliable and recommended approach for trial environments. It provides a clear workaround and gives you control over the process.

    •

By manually authenticating a domain, you can overcome the limitations of trial environments and effectively test the email and journey functionality in Dynamics 365 Customer Insights - Journeys. Remember to test thoroughly and follow security best practices.
