Working with templates which have attachments - e-mail has to be saved first BUT...

Hello,

I want to send an email to a contact by using a template. So I go to the contact, add an email, select the contact again and then insert the e-mail template.

However, when this templates has an attachment, CRM says I have to save the email first before it can add the attachments. So I click cancel, save the email and insert the template again - but unfortunately CRM still says I have to save the email first.

Only if I save the email, go back and then into the email again is it possible to insert a template including its attachments.

Has anybody else encountered this and how can I fix it?

Thanks

Andreas

What version of CRM are you on (2011 or 2013) and are you On Prem or Online?

I didn't know you could actually get an Attachment on a Email Template.  From my experience, you apply the Email Template, and then you add Attachments to the Email.  There's no way that I've seen that you can get an Attachment on an Email Template itself.

I just played around with Email Templates and Emails and Attachments, and I only got the message that I have to save once (on the Email record, before I could add my Attachment).  Then after I saved, and added the Attachment, I was good to go.  I'm using CRM 2013 and Online.

    Good morning Peter,

I am working with CRM 2013, I think technically it is a on premise one but over the cloud for me.

If ou create a template an scroll down, you can actually attach attachments! :)

Ah thanks Andreas I see it now.  Never used that feature :)

I get the first message stating I have to save the email first.  After I do that and go back into applying the template with the attachment, I get a warning that IE wants to access my clipboard.  After I click Allow Access, the attachment and template are correctly applied.

What browser are you using?  I'm using IE 10 and I'm doing this against a CRM 2013 Online Trial Org.  I wonder if you try a different browser, try a different email template / attachment, or setup a Trial 2013 Online Org, that you'll see different results as I'm not seeing what you're seeing.

I am using Firefox as the default browser, but it doesnt work with IE either (11.0.9) so I thought its a CRM bug.

Have you customized this environment?  What if you try with a new CRM 2013 Online Trial Org?  Do you still see the issues?  Some of your customizations may be causing the issue.

It could be something wrong with your computer.  Try another machine as well.
